What counts as a pane?
A pane is one single sheet of glass set in a frame. A window can hold several.
The finger test: run your finger across the glass. If you get from one corner to the opposite corner without crossing a frame, that's one pane. Cross a strip of metal, wood or vinyl and you've started the next one. So a slider with two sheets of glass is two panes.
Grids don't count. If the little dividing bars are sealed inside the glass or laid on its surface, the glass is still unbroken — that's one pane, not six.

Is this the real price?
It's the same math we use ourselves, so for most homes it is what you'll pay. Two honest caveats: windows we can't safely reach, and unusually difficult access, can add to it. If that's your house we'll tell you before we start — never after.
